1) Pop:2) Rock:3) Folk:4) RnB/Soul:5) Jazz:6) Dance/Electronic:7) Alternative/Experimental:8) World:9) Country:10) Classical:There are lots of sub genres etc so you decide which is the best fit for the artist, also don't feel obliged to fill all of the genres if you do not wish to. If you feel there is another "main" genre I've forgotten then let me know.

2) Rock: David Bowie, Beatles, Rolling Stones, U2, Pearl Jam
3) Folk: Mumford And Sons, The Decemberists, Trampled By Turtles, First Aid Kit, Father John Misty
4) RnB/Soul: Prince, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Mayer Hawthorne, Tina Turner
5) Jazz: a genre I need to explore more into. I want to, but haven't had the chance
6) Dance/Electronic: Pet Shop Boys, Hot Chip, Daft Punk, Human League, Eurythmics (early was very electronic)
7) Alternative/Experimental: Yoko Ono, Bjork, Vampire Weekend, Portishead, Weezer
8) World: need to investigate more
9) Country: Dolly Parton, Nikki Lane, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Reba McEntire
10) Classical: want to delve further into it but haven't come around to it

You guys seem to have picked your favourites acts from each genre, I tried to (and thought that's what we were meant to be doing) pick a perceived Top 5 in each genre. I tried to look at who is the most respected, popular, influential, important, essentially the Top 5, not my Top 5.
