I thought it would be a great way to start a new forum with a countdown about new music in some way, however incorporating classics. Debut albums! Some people certainly took some time to reach their top form musically speaking, others simply released their best work in the first try. How it's going to work: simple, just send me a list consisting of 20 to 50 albums (ranking them, #1 as your favorite) of any genre, released any time, only condition being they are the first albums of that artist. I'm open to conversation about acts that went solo - I'd argue different names should be counted as different acts, therefore some people might have more than one debut, under a band and then solo for example. Thoughts? I'm not setting a deadline since we still need to attracts forum members haha I'll do a presentation with the Top 100 albums.

The Clash (for you at least lol), Led Zeppelin (for me) I better bribe some non-existent members so The Clash gets a higher place than LZ - although I'm not particularly a fan of their self-titled album.

Led Zeppelin, has at times, been my favourite Zeppelin album. It's currently Physical Graffiti but it, Houses of the Holy and Led Zeppelin, seem to have been in a three way tussle for some years now, swapping places with each other a few times.

Hey man! I know you'll probably include Bjork's debut. Simon & Garfunkel's, possibly...?

Dafuq? I thought her debut was Debut, from 1993. She covered Stevie and Beatles in... Icelandic?

Yeah I think so. Should we include albums such as that? Same for Alanis, she had two Canadian releases before JLP. LOL

Yeah better go with first albums only, as hard as it is you'll find other debuts to vote for.
I never listened to "Alanis", I guess I checked one video a while ago and it was so bizarre, so pop, so non-Alanis that it put me off.

Just checking some of my faves and they released dodgy or bad debuts before getting it together. Also can I vote for debuts of a solo artist separately to the debut of their bands?... For example Frank Zappa's solo debut was "Lumpy Gravy" but his band (The Mothers of Invention) debuted with "Freak Out!".

Yeah, as said in the opening post, I think those who went solo should be able to enter with their band AND solo debuts.
And sure, there are some bizarre first albums out there, at least it makes it easier to make your list.

Reliving my youth a bit here, some great debut albums from Pet Shop Boys and Erasure. Nice memories of listening to Raintown by Deacon Blue and Welcome to the Beautiful South.
I still listen to Madonna's debut now, a good first album, but much better was still to come.
My favourite debut album of last year was Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour. I get that not everybody likes him, he does feel kind of overexposed. Looking forward to Ella Eyre's debut soon too.
Jagged Little Pull is a fantastic album packed full of gems. Shocked it wasn't her debut album.

Tunstall's debut is Telescope? Wow! I still remember the fuss about Arular. Great one.
